In order to reach this goal, OPEN project provides 2 categories of support for the CBPs.
- Knowledge, resources and training
At the 1st OPEN Symposium held in Lisbon, on the 27th and 28th November 2014, VUMC University Medical Center (Amsterdam) presented evidence and practice-based recommendations on the way to target adolescents living in deprived areas, based on a survey led with CBPs’ coordinators and experts.
All the coordinators also attended the workshop “Targeting adolescents” led by Phil Veasey, public Health and Community Management Consultant at C3, London. The workshop was a role game. The attendees were asked to imagine that they were working to improve levels of physical activity of disadvantaged adolescents population in a specific setting in London.
All resources were provided: information on the setting and stakeholders (policeman, leisure centre manager, youth club director, public health authority, young person). Participants selected and briefed in the previous weeks were playing the role of these stakeholders.
The objective of the workshop was to identify the Key principles of actions targeting adolescents such as the empowerment of the target group, the use of existing resources and the importance of designing a communication plan.
- Coaching for the implementation of actions targeting adolescents in deprived areas
Based on VUMC recommendations, the 13 coordination teams are currently designing their actions to be implemented with the support of the Proteines Paris team, who leads these activities.
Next steps: launching of projects targeting adolescents in the 13 programmes in June 2015.
